Selecting your Professional Massage Table and Equipment. Step 1. The Massage Table.
The massage table is the cornerstone of your practice. The selection of this table can be one of the most difficult decisions that you will have to make. There are many different models and manufactures available along with a vast selection of foreign-made massage tables to choose from. One aspect of selecting your table shoud include whether or not your table has a warranty or if the manufacturer has the ability to service your table should any problems arise right here in the United States. If you have to send your table over seas or if they don't have the ability to service the table for you, you may end up with a long period without a table should any problems arise during the normal operation of your massage therapy practice.
One aspect of the massage table you want to look at is the style of table that you want. Is this table going to be a portable one? Is it going to be a stationary massage table? Are you planning on taking the table to outcalls? Will it be in a room that has more than one purpose? Here are some aspects for each type of massage table you may want to consider.
- Portable massage tables.
- Wooden Portable Massage tables. These tables are the bread and butter of the massage world. They allow you to set them up as stationary tables, they have strong, hardwood construction and adjustable legs so you can set up the table at whatever height you desire and is appropriate for your body type or the patient's thickness. The weight range of these tables is 30-33lbs. and they can typically hold a working weight of 450lbs.
- Aluminum Portable Massage tables. These tables are much lighter than their wooden counter parts. They might be lighter, but they are also not as quiet or as strong. If you are most concerned with the actual weight of the table, then you may want to consider one of these. Weight range is from 20-25 lbs. The working weight on these tables run 450 lbs. as well, but only from good manufacturers. Aluminum tables from lesser-know companies or cut-rate workmanship can cost you much strength.
