Once absorbed they tend to accumulate in inflamed tissue where endothelial barriers break down, the nontoxic, nonimmunogenic bilayers of the liposome dissipate, thus making them an excellent delivery system. Topical administration allows for direct absorption to the area. Because the stomach and GI tract are bypassed there is no gastrointestinal upset.
